If you already have a ‘Level 2’ kayaking/canoeing qualification (or if you have just completed our beginner course), and want to join our club, that’s great to hear. You can apply for membership straight away. Please email meelickeyrekayakclub@gmail.com for information on joining, and for an application form.
Once you are a member, you can attend all club events, river trips, training events and make use of our ‘peer paddling’ session times.
General member sessions:
These are peer paddling sessions, and will involve club members meeting up at the river. Everyone will be responsible for their own safety and making sure they paddle within their ability. Club equipment is available for these sessions
River Trips:
Peer paddling river trips happen quite often, depending on the water levels. We have had group peer trips to places like Galway (Lower Corrib and Boluisce), Mayo (Bundorrougha), Wicklow (Annamoe/Avonmore), Longford (Inny) and Carlow (Barrow). Here are some videos of trips for our members:
Kayaking Abroad:
Kayaking trips are organised within the club as peer trips on an ad-hoc basis. Recently a group of club members went to Uganda to kayak on the rapids of the Nile. Members also went on organised trips to the Slovenian Alps and Wales.
Training:
Club members are always encouraged to further their training in river skills, safety, first aid, teaching skills, etc. Where possible the club will organise and subsidise these events.
What do I need to bring to sessions?
If you are coming to regular club peer sessions, you should bring the following:
- Old footwear (wetsuit booties are best, old runners otherwise)
- Towel
- Wetsuit (if you have one) – if not, we have club wetsuits for you to use. A drysuit is the ultimate luxury!
- If you have any other kayaking gear, bring it, but we have all that you need!
Meelick-Eyrecourt Kayak club can currently offer the use of limited amounts of kayaking equipment for member use at no cost, but it is members responsibility not to treat it wrecklessly.
